• What are donations to be used for
(to be incorporated into the letter of
welcome for donors)?
2. Benefactors will be notified through
a nationwide campaign of the schools
who can now accept livestock donations.
Any schools not listed as beneficiaries of
donations cannot be selected by donors.
3. Whole animals only are donated
which range in price (depending on
markets) from approximately $500.
Upon purchase, the benefactor nominates
which school fund he or she wishes the
sale proceeds to go to from the pre-
registered list. C2C's system will generate
a duplicate Recipient Letter for the donor
to meet ATO requirements. An additional
copy will automatically be generated
for the recipient school as a record of
4. In some cases the benefactor may wish
to donate the sale proceeds (rather than
the purchase amount) to a fund directly.
In this case, the donor may elect that
students at the nominated school are able
to view the portfolio; however it is then
the benefactor's responsibility to donate
sale funds directly to the school (not
through C2C) at sale time.
5. During the time C2C cattle are
being grown out on BSM properties
(6-12 months), a real-time portfolio
page will be accessible to all students
in nominated classes. Monthly reports
are also generated and e-mailed to
all students listed under a class login.
These reports not only educate students
on the Australian and World livestock
businesses but closely scrutinise other
climatic, social and economic influences
on rural business. It is at the discretion
of individual school's whether or not
financial information is viewable on the
6. Finally, when cattle reach the desired
weight and condition to be sold out of
BSM, C2C school recipient funds will
receive the sale proceeds less grazing and
management costs (subsidised by BSM
for the C2C project, see table). Necessary
documentation will be generated thanking
the donor and advising the beneficiaries of
the C2C payment.
Beef Stock Market cattle are run as
part of a large commercial Beef cattle
enterprise, typical of progressive
Australian agribusinesses today.
• All cattle are run in extensive grazing
situations (not in feedlots).
• Students involved in C2C will be
entering the industry at the forefront
of innovation and will gain an
appreciation for rural life in the
"Backgrounding" is the name of the
process cattle in BSM undertake.
• All cattle are young steers, grown out
on improved pastures.
• The process usually takes well under
12 months (seasonal conditions
allowing) which enables each year's
students to see the profits of their
cattle ownership come to fruition in
a school year.
• Cattle are all run by contracted
growers on some of Australia's top
• All cattle owners have access to their
livestock which may also pave the way
for field trips to BSM properties.
Beef Stock Market's C2C project is
a unique facility that uses modern
technology to bridge the growing
divide between city and country. Urban
school children can now learn where and
how food is produced within a context
they understand and feel comfortable
with -- the internet. Down to earth
opportunities that utilise the best of
city and country come along rarely.
The C2C project provides a win for all
fund-raising education stakeholders and
most importantly our future leaders.
